Deer at Foodplot

We want to make sure you’re as knowledgable as possible before purchasing your food-plot product. Consider these points to determine the right seed product for your deer food-plot needs.

Can you access the site with equipment?

There’s nothing wrong with having limited access to the plot planting. There’s still plenty of options to attract deer into where you want them and many of which larger planting equipment can’t reach. Products like Imperial Bowstand and Imperial Secret Spot were developed for those smaller, remote food plots that maybe only you and the deer know of. Both of these products excel with minimal planting equipment and effort.

Are you looking for an annual or a perennial?

Annuals complete their life-cycle in one growing season and provide rapid bulk food for short periods of time like when bucks are developing their antlers and fawns are growing. Perennials typically live more than two years and are slow and steady to grow, but provide a high-quality nutrition year-round. Our favorite annual is the Imperial Whitetail PowerPlant. With its ability to withstand heat, drought, and cold, this mix of forage soybean and other seeds produce more leaves and can take formidable grazing pressure. If you’re looking for a perennial, Imperial Whitetail Clover reigns supreme. The ability to stick around 3-5 years for a food plot makes it an attractive option on top of its unique blend of diverse and resistant clovers.

Are you planting in spring/summer or fall/winter?

You would think this is an obvious answer, but it truly does depend on the product you’re planting. Some products, like Imperial Whitetail Chic Magnet, thrive with both planting times. Featuring WINA-100 Forage Chicory, it is extremely attractive to deer and can be planted alone, mixed with other seeds, or over-seeded in existing forages. It’s coated with RainBondTM for enhanced seedling survivability to make it a great option for either planting season.

There may be other factors to take into consideration when deciding what seed to plant in your deer food plot. If you still have questions or concerns, give us a call or send us a message, and we can get you squared away with the best option for you!
